During the past two years, the Khor Fakkan Municipality of Sharjah issued 34 violations against individuals who did not comply with the requirements and instructions for barbecuing approved by the municipality in order to preserve the safety of the terrestrial and marine environment, and to preserve wildlife and biodiversity, confirming that it applies the penalties and fines stipulated by the law, in order to ensure The public’s commitment to following sound environmental behaviors while barbecuing at tourist sites and on beaches.
The Director of the Municipality of Khor Fakkan City, Engineer Fawzia Rashid Al-Qadi, stated that the municipality has published special instructions on the mechanism of correct and safe handling of barbecue waste in areas permitted for barbecue, such as wild areas and others, which include supervisory controls and practices to maintain the safety of people and the sustainability and cleanliness of areas designated for barbecue. Noting that the municipality carries out periodic monitoring of the beaches throughout the year, to ensure the implementation of the laws and legislation issued by the municipality, in order to preserve the environment and the cultural appearance of the city.
She said: The municipality has put in place the necessary plans in tourist sites and parks, in preparation for the winter season, as designated places have been provided for throwing barbecue waste, intensified inspection patrols at tourist sites and awareness campaigns, and placed information signs at tourist sites. She confirmed the intensification of specialized inspectors in the sites that witness a large demand from visitors to the city, such as Shees Park, Al-Rafisa Dam Rest House, the Pearl Sea Beach, and Khor Fakkan Square Park, in addition to the city’s inspectors who play an awareness-raising role by providing advice and instructions to beachgoers to comply with the laws and procedures imposed on them regarding… “Barbecue leftovers”, and explaining the importance of preserving the environment and leaving it clean.
She added that people who do not comply with the instructions are punished, in order to put an end to individuals’ transgressions in wild areas by applying the penalties and fines stipulated by the law, in order to ensure that the public adheres to proper behavior and preserves the wild environment, wildlife and biodiversity.
She stated that the municipality deals with barbecue violations decisively, given the environmental damage it causes, in addition to the danger it poses to beachgoers, especially children, noting that barbecue containers have been allocated along the beaches in which barbecue waste is safely disposed of, explaining that no Barbecuing is prohibited in the areas designated for it and enjoying the cold winter weather, but the applicable terms and conditions must be adhered to.
She stressed the need to maintain the cleanliness of recreational areas, which is the responsibility of all members of society.
