The coordinator of the National Crisis and Disaster Coordination Committee, Lebanese Minister of Environment Nasser Yassin, announced yesterday that the number of displaced people from the areas targeted by Israeli raids last night reached 16,500. Yassin said, after meeting with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati yesterday: “The shelters in schools have reached 150 schools, while the number of displaced people is increasing to 16,500.”
Minister Yassin pointed out that the Prime Minister instructed the Higher Relief Committee to continue providing the required relief for the displaced. Mikati met with Minister Yassin, who briefed him on the efforts made by the committee to shelter the displaced from the areas of aggression and provide them with the necessary supplies, according to a statement issued by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese authorities extended the closure of schools, universities and nurseries until the end of this week, in light of the intensive Israeli raids targeting large areas in southern and eastern Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Beirut.
Education Minister Abbas Al-Halabi announced in a statement that the closure of schools, high schools, institutes and schools, in addition to the Lebanese University and private higher education institutions in all Lebanese regions will be extended until the end of this week. At the same time, Health Minister Firas Abiad announced the closure of all nurseries until the end of the week across all Lebanese territories.
