The West would seek to reason with the Kyiv regime if it really feared a nuclear catastrophe. This was stated on September 22 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova on the air of the TV channel “Russia 1”.
She noted that Western countries are spinning the story with the use of nuclear weapons in an anti-Russian vein and are trying to expose the Russian authorities in what no one has done or said.
“On the other hand, if they were really afraid of some kind of nuclear catastrophe, they would still somehow reason with the Kyiv regime and, by the way, now the European Union would somehow try to reason with Washington and stop shelling a nuclear facility,” Zakharova added.
The day before, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during the announcement of partial mobilization in the country, said that the authorities were ready to use all the means of destruction available to the country to protect against aggression.
Western leaders regarded this statement as a threat to use nuclear weapons. In particular, US President Joe Biden began his speech at the UN General Assembly by quoting Putin about nuclear weapons.
Zakharova responded by accusing Biden of distorting Putin’s words.
At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he did not believe that Russia would be able to use nuclear weapons during a special military operation.
At the same time, the Ukrainian military continue shelling the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. Moscow has repeatedly called on the world community to pay attention to this and call on the Kyiv regime not to pose a threat of a nuclear catastrophe.
On February 24, Russia announced the start of a special operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass. It began against the backdrop of the situation in the region that worsened in mid-February.
