Former French martial arts champion Francis Ngannou announced the death of his 15-month-old son, Kobe.
Ngannou posted on his account: “It was early, but he was gone. My little child, my friend Kobe, was full of life and joy, but now he lies lifeless. I called his name, but he did not answer me.”
He continued, “Life is not fair because it hits us where the pain is greatest.”
Ngannou also posted on his account before his child’s death was officially announced: “What is the meaning of life if everything we struggle to get away from with all our might is what ultimately traumatized us the most, and why is life so unfair and merciless?”
Reactions to the child’s death continued, and martial arts celebrities offered their condolences to Ngannou, and his UFC colleague Conor McGregor wrote on his account: “I am very sorry to hear of your loss, Francis. My prayers are with you and your family at this time.”
Ngannou's manager, Markelle Martin, posted: “Please respect Francis Ngannou and his family during this painful time. I, along with millions of others, will pray that they will be strong.”
As for veteran ring broadcaster Michael Buffer, he posted on social media, “The entire sports world and beyond stands devastated and supports Francis strongly at this time. Please know that millions of us are embracing little Kobe in our prayers.”
