Aden (Al-Ittihad)
The Yemeni government warned against the Houthi systematic targeting of displacement camps, and disregard for efforts and calls for calm and peace, calling on the international community to take strict stances regarding this escalation, which puts the lives of civilians at risk and exacerbates human suffering.
The Yemeni Minister of Information, Muammar Al-Eryani, condemned the Houthi group’s targeting of displaced camps north of the city of Ma’rib, for the fourth time in two months.
Muammar Al-Eryani explained that the Houthi’s systematic targeting of displacement camps confirms its disregard for the lives of Yemenis, its indifference to the most complex humanitarian crisis in the world as a result of the war it sparked, and its disregard for efforts and calls for calm and peace.
The day before yesterday, the Houthi group targeted, with a ballistic missile, the northern neighborhoods of the city of Ma’rib, according to local and media sources.
The sources added that the missile fell near a gas station on the outskirts of the city, which is crowded with camps for displaced people.
Recently, the Houthi group intensified its missile attacks towards residential neighborhoods and camps for displaced people in the city of Ma’rib, causing great material damage and cases of fear and panic among citizens.
Al-Eryani pointed out that on September 1, the Houthi group targeted the “Al-Menin Al-Qibli, Al-Musalal, Hajibah, and Shaqman Dispensary” camps for displaced people in Ma’rib Governorate, with 4 missiles, in conjunction with the presence of the UN envoy in the governorate. On October 6, it also targeted “Al-Mil” camp for displaced people north of the city. Marib was bombed with a missile, coinciding with the visit of the military advisor to the UN envoy and the team accompanying him. On October 11, the Suwayda camp for the displaced in Marib was targeted with a “Katyusha” missile, which led to material damage.
Al-Eryani warned of the repercussions of these terrorist attacks, which endanger the lives of civilians, women and children, exacerbate the catastrophic conditions of thousands of displaced families from various governorates under the control of the Houthi group, and push towards new waves of displacement towards safer areas.
Al-Eryani called on the international community, the United Nations and its special envoy to Yemen, to clearly and explicitly condemn these terrorist attacks, and to take strict positions regarding the Houthi escalation, which threatens to undermine calm efforts, endanger the lives of civilians, and exacerbate human suffering, and work to classify the Houthis as a terrorist group, prosecute and hold its leaders accountable, and ensure that they do not Their impunity.
On the other hand, the United Nations Humanitarian Affairs Organization announced that more than two million children are out of school in Yemen and need humanitarian support.
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that this comes “due to poverty, conflict or lack of resources.” He pointed out that more than a third of schools in Yemen were damaged or became unfit for learning.
