It will be because it is election time that neither the municipal, state, nor federal authorities intervene in the invasion that has been taking place for months on the margins of the El Infiernillo estuary, on Circunvalación street, between Río Piaxtla and General Pesqueira streets. They started a few months ago with a small roof made with four wooden sticks and a plastic tarp. Now there are at least 20 wooden houses with plastic roofs, some in better condition than others. At first, the authorities justified the presence of these tejabans to protect themselves from the sun. Then it became evident that they were hanging from public lighting to have light at night, and thus, as the days went by, more and more people were seen living and filling with rubble and garbage.
Until when will order be put in place? It is not known, but the rainy season is coming and those who are invading the estuary are not only risking their lives, but by filling in the El Infiernillo estuary they increase the risk of flooding in surrounding areas. We must not forget that this place has been silted up for years and no authority has intervened. There are increasingly fewer buffer zones to capture the rainwater that falls in the city due to the development of new constructions in the city. The increase in flooding with moderate rainfall is not surprising given so many omissions by those responsible for administering Mazatlán.
Continuing with issues of estuaries and canals, the residents of Jardines de la Riviera denounced on social networks that sympathizers of a political party painted the walls of the canal with the name of a candidate for the Presidency. And perhaps this would not have generated discontent if at least the militants had cleaned up the garbage and some weeds found in the area. It makes sense, if someone wants to use a space, they would at least have to clean it. By the way, it will be good to know if those who painted on the canal paid the required municipal taxes, since that is a public good.
On Friday, the Open Town Council session of the Mazatlán City Council was held, and it will be because the administration is already ending, but there were several absent councilors. These were Paulina Saharí Heredia, Claudia Peña Chico, Esther Juárez Nelson and Francis Osuna. The secretary of the City Council, Adda Rosas Medina, said that the absences are justified, according to the letters that arrived at her office, but these absences can be interpreted as a lack of interest in listening to the voice of the citizens. The one who swept into the session was councilor Roberto Rodríguez. He arrived 45 minutes late.
The Las Cabras sea festivals, in Escuinapa, began. But along with it a series of accidents that two days after concluding this traditional festival could not have a white balance. There have already been traffic accidents and the burning of a bower. Let’s hope that no other incident that ends in tragedy happens these days.
