Relations between the West and Russia may worsen in the future, in this regard, the expansion of the military conflict cannot be ruled out. This was stated by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on September 20.
The Serbian leader recalled the evening address of Russian President Vladimir Putin, which is expected to take place on Tuesday evening.
“It’s not hard to guess what the president will say [РФ Владимир] Putin in general. I assume that from the stage of a special military operation we are approaching a major military conflict, and now the question is where the borders are and whether we will go after a while, or maybe in a month or two, into a major world conflict, which we have has not been since the Second World War, ”the TV channel quoted him as saying. RTS.
Vučić added that Russian journalists tried to contact him and take his comment about Putin’s speech, but he “could not speak until he heard his appeal.”
“For all of us small ones who would like to be safe and ensure the safety of citizens, there is no good and easy news, and I expect that all that we will see in the coming period is a further complication of relations between the West and the Russian Federation, as well as between the West and the PRC” he added.
Earlier in the day, the chairman of the alliance’s military committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, said that NATO “is not at war” with Russia and does not intend to attack it. The military leader indicated that the alliance would enter into a military conflict with Russia if the Russian Federation attacked one of its countries. But this did not happen.
Prior to that, on September 3, Patrick Buchanan, editor-in-chief of The American Conservative, called NATO’s eastward expansion a mistake. In his opinion, the actions of the United States led to the beginning of a new stage of the Cold War with Moscow and the rapprochement of the Russian Federation and China.
At the same time, on August 16, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the military activities of NATO member countries had taken the form of an absolutely anti-Russian orientation. He stressed that significant forces from the United States have already been deployed to the continent, and the number of coalition troops in Eastern and Central Europe has grown significantly.
On the same day, President Putin announced that the collective West was purposefully destroying the European security system. The Russian leader pointed out that NATO is now moving east, building up its military infrastructure there, deploying missile defense systems and increasing the strike capabilities of offensive forces. He added that in order to maintain hegemony, the alliance needs conflicts.
On February 24, Russia launched a special operation to protect the DPR and LPR. It was preceded by an aggravation of the situation in the region, an appeal by the leadership of the Donbass republics to the Russian Federation with a request for help, and the subsequent recognition by Russia of the independence of the DPR and LPR.
Kyiv has been conducting a military operation against the residents of Donbass, who refused to recognize the results of the coup d’état in Ukraine, since 2014.
