A group of miners protest against the owner of Altos Hornos de México, Alonso Ancira, outside the headquarters of the event that will be led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and the virtual President-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum.
With cardboard, they demand at the Nueva Rosita Sports Unit that Ancira be imprisoned and that he pay all the settlements that, they claim, the company AHMSA has pending.
“We are here and we want you to extradite once and for all this nefarious character, thief, scoundrel, rapacious, who has sunk the central region and the coal region of our State of Coahuila,” accused Benjamín Silva, members of Section 288 of the Mining Union.
“He looted a region that is economically sunk because of this man who is in the United States. Just as Mexicans are extradited to the United States, they should also bring him and show their faces to the families of the workers and former workers.”
“Ancira, former prisoner of the North Prison, we want him to come and show his face to the families who have not been settled in just over a year, they have not been given their settlement, their liquidation and they are dying.”
Silva indicated that they have accounted for around 20 “colleagues” who died without having obtained the settlement to which they were entitled for more than 40 years of work in the company.
He explained that, additionally, there are more than a thousand former workers who have not been given their severance pay.
“That is why we are here, we also want to make public this complaint against the State Government that represses the workers who are in this fight, because we have the right to demonstrate,” he added.
“Just as he became rich at the expense of the workers, we want him to come and show his face to the families,” he insisted.
And medical personnel demonstrate
Medical personnel from the region speak out at the same point because their contract ends on June 30 and they are not certain that they will be rehired.
“We are not demanding or asking for anything more than work, it is the only thing. When the Covid pandemic we were at the forefront, we were fighting, we never backed down or gave up (…), so just as we gave them, we want that they give us,” said the general nurse, Leslie Cárdenas.
“They are leaving us with nothing and now Governor Manolo wants to offer us that if he can, he will see it, he will check it, they can give us a state contract with a precarious salary of 3 thousand pesos, what are we going to complete with 3 thousand pesos the fortnight when food is super expensive.
In an interview, he warned that there are approximately 600 medical workers from towns such as Sabinas, Acuña, Piedras Negras, Cuatro Ciénegas, Torreón and Monclova who are at risk of being out of work at the end of the month.
