The UAE confirmed that it has dealt with this crisis since its beginning, according to a number of fixed priorities, first, the necessity of reaching an immediate ceasefire and a commitment to protect civilians in accordance with international law and international humanitarian law, and second, ensuring that humanitarian aid reaches the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip without obstacles or Restrictions, in a safe, urgent and sustainable manner. She explained that based on the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, and in line with the UAE’s established humanitarian approach towards the brotherly Palestinian people, the state hastened since the beginning of the crisis in Gaza to provide relief and food aid to the residents of the Strip, and launched a number of Initiatives, most notably Operation “Gallant Knight 3,” through which the UAE provided 33,000 tons of urgent supplies and equipment to Gaza, including food and health aid and shelter materials through 319 aircraft, seven cargo ships, and more than 1,240 trucks; The state also established a field hospital in southern Gaza, in addition to a floating hospital in the Egyptian port of Al-Arish, which contributed to the treatment of more than 27,000 sick and injured people. The UAE is also committed to treating a thousand children and a thousand cancer patients in state hospitals, while covering all their expenses and their companions.
The UAE statement stated that, in an effort to ensure water and food security, the UAE has established 6 water desalination plants operating with a capacity of 1.2 million gallons per day to serve 600,000 people of Gaza, and 5 automated bakeries were established to meet the daily needs of more than 72,000 people. Thus, it has become The UAE is the largest donor of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip at the bilateral level.
On the other hand, the statement explained that the UAE, during its membership in the UN Security Council, issued Resolution No. 2720 (in 2023), which called for taking concrete steps to increase the flow of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, and to ensure the protection of United Nations employees and humanitarian workers on the territory of the Strip. And the creation of the position of Chief Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator in Gaza, which will be held by Sigrid Kaag.
The UAE stressed the importance of the role of KAG in responding to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, calling on all concerned parties to support it, cooperate and coordinate with it, as well as with the United Nations mechanism to increase the flow of humanitarian aid that civilians desperately need in the Strip.
She stressed that “the highest priority at this stage remains achieving an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and in this context, the UAE praises the proposals presented by US President Joe Biden, appreciating these efforts aimed at stopping the war and calling for dealing with them in a serious and positive manner.” The United States of America also stressed the importance of Israel’s commitment to the negotiating track.
