The PSOE does not plan to organize public events in support of Pedro Sánchez these days and prefers that the militants show their support for their leader through social networks, explained yesterday the general secretary of the PSRM, José Vélez. He met the members of the regional executive in the afternoon to analyze the situation and support Sánchez. “Many militants are calling to offer their support and affection.” Vélez rejected that Sánchez's letter responds to a political strategy and trusts that the president will continue to lead the Government.
«From the national leadership of the party they have told us not to organize anything. If people want to do something, it will be spontaneous, but it will not be organized by the party,” he stressed. “They have asked us to be calm and to express our affection on the networks, but no more.”
The members of the Regional Executive Commission and the Socialist Youth conveyed their support to Pedro Sánchez and showed their “absolute rejection of the campaign of personal persecution that both he and his wife and the rest of the family have suffered from the right and the extreme right,” the party said in a statement. «Not everything goes in politics. All the red lines of decency have been crossed with attacks, disqualifications and constant lies. Hoaxes and false accusations cannot be used to try to delegitimize a democratically elected government because democracy is put at risk,” the socialists warned. They pointed out Abascal and Feijóo as architects of the “tactic of dehumanizing the political rival” because “they still do not accept the result of the last elections.” Likewise, they support that the president has taken a few days to reflect.
José Vélez hopes that next Monday Pedro Sánchez will announce that he continues to lead the central executive because “he has to continue fighting to improve our country.” In a press conference that took place in the morning at the party headquarters, he stated that the letter published by Sánchez on social networks is “sincere”, the result of a personal decision, and “born from the heart, from the suffering of his family”, which the head of the nation's Executive “is seeing suffer.”
He insisted that “there is a very clear campaign of harassment and demolition” towards the president, which has led to a “personal attack on his wife, on his entire family.” And politics, he said, “cannot end there.” «I have seen my family suffer; You all know the amount of time I have been suffering from false complaints. We politicians are used to this suffering and we handle it well, but we don't handle it so well when we see our family suffer,” stressed Vélez, who added that López Miras' words have hurt him “very much,” stating that it is a «aesthetic maneuver».
Solidarity of Podemos
The regional deputy of Podemos, María Marín, expressed her “solidarity” with the PSOE in the face of “the 'lawfare' campaign that Pedro Sánchez is suffering from the political, judicial and media right,” party sources reported. However, she said that Sánchez's reaction “should have come sooner.” For example, “when the ultras harassed Pablo Iglesias for a year at the doors of his house, in the face of some of the more than 20 complaints against Podemos that have occupied hours and hours in the gatherings and that have all been filed, in the face of the shameful 'lawfare' against Irene Montero or when the ultras threw Molotov cocktails at our headquarters in Cartagena. Marín hoped “that this is not just an electoral strategy” and that “measures will once and for all be taken to cut off these undemocratic powers.”
