The suspended Volt Member of Parliament Nilüfer Gündogan knows nothing of the complaints filed against her. The party has not informed her of this. It also appears that there has been an investigation against her for some time. That has now been expanded.
This is apparent from a statement that Volt on the website has posted. The party suspended Gundogan last night. This happened because ‘there is a balance of power and the reporting persons feel unsafe’. Volt also says that he has received ‘signals’ that ‘others do not dare to cooperate with the research as long as there is a balance of power’.
It is unclear what has been reported. Volt does say that the complaints “indicate unacceptable behavior” and “sufficient reason” to expand the investigation. A spokesman confirms that an investigation into Gundogan has been underway for “several weeks”, which is now being expanded. The party has engaged an external integrity agency for this.

Gundogan himself is still in the dark about who reported what about her. According to Volt because she is ‘part of the investigation’. “The agency first speaks with those who make reports and step forward with the complaints. After that, a rebuttal with Nilüfer Gündogan takes place.” The number 2 of Volt was informed of the suspension and the investigation by party leader Laurens Dassen yesterday, without having heard any details. She herself has not yet responded.
According to Volt, the party can now say no more because ‘the interests of reporters of transgressive behavior outweigh the openness that the party claims to promote. The statement does state that the reports relate to the work situation and not to the private sphere.

The spokesperson for the Volt faction says that engaging an external agency entails ‘the duty’ not to disclose anything about the nature of the complaints ‘until all those involved have had their say’. He also says that the group wants to protect ‘both the reporting persons and the person about whom the reports come’. “At the same time, we have a responsibility as a party to intervene and ensure a safe working environment as soon as the reports are serious enough.”
