The broad S&P 500 index was up 1.7 percent at the end of the trading day on Thursday and reached a new record high after rising to more than 5,700 points. The industry-focused Dow Jones was up 1.3 percent at the close of the stock market and rose above 42,000 points for the first time.
The technology-focused Nasdaq index strengthened by 2.5 percent.
