Energy prices depend on the decisions of Germany and the EU, and citizens have to pay for it, said the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Slovakia Richard Sulik, writes the portal Aktuality.sk…
“Germany made a decision on an absurd energy policy many years ago and we are paying the price for that,” he accused Germany. Sulik added that Slovakia cannot influence the high prices. He believes that the record cost of fuel is associated with the postponement of the launch of Nord Stream 2 and with the decision to close the German nuclear power plants.

Sulik said that the Germans want to receive Russian gas through Poland via Yamal-Europe. “I will compare this situation with buying bread. You want more bread, and the seller will offer it to you, but you refuse it, because you want to receive the goods packed in a bag, not blue, but red. In this case, absolutely insignificant things are being resolved with gas supplies via Nord Stream-2, ”the Deputy Prime Minister noted.
Energy shortages have led Europe to re-commission some coal-fired power plants. The price of emission allowances soared over the year by more than 150 percent – to almost 80 euros per tonne. This has seriously affected electricity prices.
Record gas prices are supported by its shortage in European storage facilities and limited supplies from Russia, Sulik is sure. “Sooner or later they will come to their senses and issue a permit for the operation of Nord Stream 2 and allow nuclear power plants to operate for some time. If they do this, then energy prices will immediately go down, ”the minister added.
Gazprom announced the full readiness of Nord Stream 2 on December 29. Now both the first and second lines of the gas pipeline are under operating pressure and are fully ready for operation.
