Sarah Polley has made her first feature film in eleven years with The Debate. In an interview, the Canadian director talks about the terrible shooting – and talks about the complicated question of children on the set.
Ms. Polley, congratulations on the two Oscar nominations for your new film The Pronunciation in the categories Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay!
Thank you very much. This awards season was an exciting time that I unexpectedly enjoyed a lot.
Actually? You usually hear your colleagues complaining that all the shaking of hands and self-promotion is so exhausting.
I know! And I used to say the same thing. Normally I’m a real cynic about things like this, but this time all these events have really brought me joy. Not least because I met so many exciting people who were also in the running with their films and who you met again and again because of that. It was almost like a tour group.
