Genoa – Turnaround on the Sampdoria Women bench. The Sampdoria club sacked Salvatore Mango, despite mathematical salvation now just one step away and excellent results in an obstacle season that began amidst a thousand uncertainties and difficulties.
In his place on the Women's bench, Gian Loris Rossi is promoted from Primavera and will lead the team when the championship resumes after the international break, next April 21st at Sciorba against Milan at 12.30.
“A decision that has been considered for some time in view of the 2024/25 sporting season – Sampdoria's statement – and brought forward by a few weeks following the club's and the coach's awareness of the mutual need for new stimuli. Mister Mango goes to thanks for the extraordinary salvation achieved in the past season and the excellent results obtained in the current one”.
Called by the head of the women's sector Marco Palmieri in February 2023 to replace Antonio Cincotta, Mango had led the Blucerchiate in poule-salvation of the last championship, gaining their place in Serie A on the last day. A feat practically repeated this season, in which the women's team had risked disappearing in the summer before the new ownership retraced its steps, deciding to continue its commitment to Serie A.
Among the goals achieved by Sampdoria Women, also the call-up of 4 players to the national team, with Elisabetta Oliviero called up by coach Andrea Soncin also for the next qualifying matches for the Women's European Championships scheduled for tomorrow against the Netherlands in Cosenza and Tuesday 9 April in Finland . The probable separation between Sampdoria and the coach at the end of the season was in the air in the last few days, but today the club surprisingly decided to accelerate the timing of the change in the bench.
