The Catholic Diocese of Moscow called for the return of the memorial plaque to Archbishop Reinis
The Lithuanian Archbishop Mecislovas Reinis is in the process of canonization; he died in prison and deserves to be immortalized at his burial place. This was stated by the Vicar General of the Catholic Archdiocese of the Mother of God in Moscow, priest Kirill Gorbunov, reports on Wednesday, October 25, RIA News.
“The memory of Reinis is preserved among Catholics in Russia, in particular, in the Church of the Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Vladimir, a memorial plaque was erected to him,” he said.
The Catholic vicar added that, in his opinion, the Estonian archbishop is an outstanding statesman and public figure who “certainly deserves to be commemorated at the site of his martyrdom.”
Earlier it was reported that Lithuania and Estonia sent a note of protest to Russia due to the dismantling of memorial plaques at the Prince Vladimir cemetery in the city of Vladimir, dedicated to foreigners who died in the Vladimir political prison. The memorial disappeared in mid-October. As the head of the city of Vladimir, Dmitry Naumov, explained to journalists, the memorial to foreigners buried at the Prince Vladimir cemetery in Vladimir was erected illegally, and now restoration is underway at the cemetery.
