Russia and Ukraine said on Tuesday they had exchanged dozens of prisoners, the latest such operation since the start of the current crisis more than a year ago.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that 90 Russian prisoners returned from Ukraine following the operation. Kiev confirmed that 130 Ukrainian servicemen had been released from Russia.
Andriy Yermak, director of the Ukrainian President’s Office, said that 87 of the Ukrainians, who were released as part of this operation, were taking part in the defense of the southeastern city of Mariupol before it was taken over by Russia.
The two countries have already conducted several prisoner exchange operations.
