Vettel's future
The name that has been on everyone's lips the most in recent days, especially in the Suzuka paddock, is that of a four-time world champion like Sebastian Vettel, for reasons as diverse as they are valid. Having retired from racing in 2022, the German carried out a test in Aragon at the wheel of the Porsche 963 Hypercar, a fact which has generated numerous hypotheses about the possible participation of the former Red Bull in the 24 Hours of Le Mans of this year.
Return to F1?
Even more recently, however, statements have also been added by Vettel himself on a not entirely excluded hypothesis of a return to Formula 1. From here, the direct connection with the Mercedes as a possible replacement for Lewis Hamilton for 2025, also following a conversation between 'Seb' and the Brackley team principal, Toto Wolff.
A seat in Mercedes?
It is not yet clear whether Vettel will really fill the seat vacated by his former rival, or whether another signature will land in Mercedes such as that of Carlos Sainz, Esteban Ocon, the 17-year-old Andrea Kimi Antonelli from Bologna, or even that of reigning champion Max Verstappen. The fact remains that the possible return of the former #5 would be well received by George Russell.
Russell's welcome
In the pre-Japan GP press conference, the 26-year-old Briton would in fact be happy to 'welcome' the winner of 53 career races: “Sebastian is a great person and is a four-time world champion – he has declared – you can certainly say that we miss him on the starting grid. I think it's important to have the 20 best drivers in the world in Formula 1. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm open to any teammatewhether I'm a world champion or a rookie, this doesn't change the way I do my job.”
