Europa Press: Spaniard who sent explosives to Ukrainian embassy gets 18 years
Spain’s National Court has sentenced Burgos pensioner Pompeyo González to 18 years in prison for sending letters containing homemade explosives. transmits news agency Europa Press, citing the court’s decision.
Gonzalez, 76, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on terrorism charges and eight years for manufacturing, possessing and using explosive, flammable or incendiary devices for terrorist purposes. He is said to have sent explosives to the Ukrainian embassy in Madrid, among other places.
According to the judge, the accused sought to “cause great turmoil in Spanish society in order to put pressure on the governments of Spain and the United States and other organizations located in Spain to stop supporting Ukraine.”
It was previously reported that Spain would transfer a new batch of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. Along with them, Madrid would also supply tank recovery vehicles and anti-tank missiles, the number of which was not specified.
