Her Excellency said that the UAE is making continuous efforts to conserve water, as His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, “may God protect him,” launched on February 29, 2024, the “Mohamed Bin Zayed Water Initiative” to confront the global challenge of water scarcity, which It aims to enhance awareness of the importance of the water scarcity crisis and its seriousness at the international level, in addition to accelerating the development of innovative technological solutions to address it, in addition to testing the effectiveness of these solutions to confront this worsening global challenge, noting also that the country will host the United Nations Water Conference for the year 2026, in cooperation with the Republic of Senegal.
On the sidelines of the conference, Her Excellency Amna Al-Dahhak met with His Excellency Bahadur Sher Alizadeh, Chairman of the Environmental Protection Committee of Tajikistan, where they discussed opportunities to enhance cooperation and exchange experiences in environmental conservation, water treatment technology, and renewable energy.
Her Excellency also met with Micky van Geinken, Special Envoy for Water of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, praising the Netherlands’ efforts to host the United Nations conference in 2023, in cooperation with Tajikistan, and expressed the country’s aspiration to build on the outcomes of international conferences that contribute to enhancing international cooperation to achieve sustainable development goals.
The UAE delegation included representatives of government agencies and the private sector from the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, and a number of entities and companies that include both Abu Dhabi Ports Group and Masdar Company.
