There North Korea today launched a short-range ballistic missile in the direction of the Sea of Japan. This was reported by the South Korean news agency Yonhap, citing the united major states of Seoul. The launch was accompanied by the explosion of about 170 artillery rounds in the maritime buffer zones, the same source said.
“Such continuous provocations by North Korea are acts that undermine peace and stability not only on the Korean peninsula, but also in the international community”, complained the South Korean military leaders, cited by Yonhap. “In this regard, we seriously warn the North, and strongly urge it to suspend these acts immediately.”
The South Korean military also denounced how more than 10 North Korean military planes flew to areas close to the no-fly zone between the two countries, prompting Seoul to take off fighter jets. The missile launched today would have fallen outside the exclusive economic zone of Japan, announced the Japanese Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada who – speaking with the Kyodo news agency – called what happened “totally unacceptable”.
