Important anniversary for Nissan Nismothe division of the Japanese brand specialized in high-performance cars, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Founded on September 17, 1984 as an internal division of Nissan for the optimization of tuning, motorsport and performanceNissan Motorsport International Co. Limited was later renamed NISMO. Since then, the brand has come to symbolize the company’s commitment to improving the performance of its cars, both on the track and on the road.
The birth of the brand
Nismo, which was originally based in Omori, Tokyo, represents the driving force of some of the most important vehicles and motorsports in Nissan’s history. The company’s slogan, “From the track to the road“, embodies Nissan’s goal of offering drivers the ultimate in performance.

During the celebrations of the 40th anniversary, Visitors to the Nissan Global Headquarters Gallery in Yokohama will be able to see NISMO road cars such as the ultra-rare Nismo 270R and legendary Nismo 400R, as well as track classics such as the Nissan R390 GT1 that finished third at the 1998 Le Mans 24 Hours, the Nissan R91CP that won the Dayton 24 Hours and the Skyline GT-R Group A icon of the Japan Touring Car Championship (JTCC). Vehicles from the current NISMO model lineup will also be on display, including the recent Ariya, AURA and FAIRLADY Z. The exhibition will run until Tuesday, October 15, 2024. Also coinciding with its 40th anniversary, Nissan’s motorsports division returns to Europe with the Ariya Nismo, the first high-performance electric car for the Old Continent of the Japanese brand.
The party continues at Fuji
Nismo’s 40th anniversary celebrations will continue with the Nismo Festival 2024scheduled for December 1st at Fuji International Speedway. This year’s festival is dedicated to the 40th anniversary of NISMO and pays tribute to the rich heritage of the brandracing successes and the evolution of high-performance road cars.
