A Spanish developer has created a tool that, according to what has been stated, allows the software PS Vita to run natively on Nintendo Switch.
Sergi Granell created “vita2hos”, which he describes as “one level of translation from PlayStation Vita to Horizon OS (Nintendo Switch OS)“.
Using this tool, PlayStation Vita executables can theoretically run on Nintendo Switch consoles modified or development.
Granell points out that his creation it is not an emulator. When a Vita executable is started, vita2hos redirects its instructions to go to routines on Horizon OS, the Switch operating system, which perform the same behavior. In this way, the Vita executable can run on the Switch operating system natively, rather than by emulation.
A video from Modern Vintage Gamer shows this tool in action. The channel was able to successfully launch simple PS Vita demos on a modified Nintendo Switch. According to MVG, no commercial games for PlayStation Vita is currently executable on the Nintendo Switch and it may take a while for this to happen.
The channel notes that because the Switch and Vita both have ARM CPUs, the Switch is able to natively read Vita code when Xerpi’s tool provides workarounds for Sony’s proprietary callouts.
In March last year, Sony announced plans to close the PlayStation Store on PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita and PSP.
However, following the criticism of the players, the company did a partial reverse in April, saying it would no longer close the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita shops but was still planning to close the PSP one, which it did in July.
In October, however, Sony limited the number of ways customers can buy PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita digital content removing the ability to use a credit or debit card or PayPal.
