Young talent from the Ferrari school
Charles Leclerc he is undoubtedly one of the reference drivers of Formula 1 today. The Monegasque is part of that brood of young talents born in the late 90s – in particular between 1997 and 1999 – which currently monopolize a large part of the Circus' starting grid. Leclerc grew professionally in the Ferrari Driver Academy, becoming the first FDA driver to compete in F1 with the Maranello team. At a managerial level, the native of the Principality has been followed for many years now by another name – or rather, surname – linked to the history of Ferrari: Todt. Not Jean, the team principal of the triumphs of the early 2000s, but son Nicholas.
In the name of Jules
In an interesting interview given Radio Deejayduring the program 'Deejay Gioca Italia', Todt Jr. himself – present together with Leclerc himself – recalled the origins of their meeting. It was the bridge that acted as a bridge family of poor Jules Bianchi, recently honored by Leclerc in the Japanese GP with a dedicated helmet. It was he who put the young and promising Leclerc in contact with the man who today is in all respects one of the most influential managers within F1.
“My job was above all to be a talent scout – said Nicholas Todt – I tried to select the best young drivers in the world. At that time there were 2-3 really strong drivers in karting, like Max [Verstappen] and Charles. Charles and I had a great friend in common, Jules Bianchi, who sadly passed away 10 years ago, and Jules' best friend was Charles' brother. The Bianchi family told me about Charles, telling me that he was really worth helping. We met Charles' dad when he was 14“, concluded the French manager.
