There is just one month left until the most anticipated and exciting draw of the entire year: the Extraordinary Christmas Lottery Drawin which, almost as a tradition, thousands of Spaniards invest a part of their money in purchasing one or more tickets to share with friends, family and co-workers, although only a few of them will win a few million.
Still, everyone who has ever bought a ticket relying on luck has daydreamed about the prize and asked themselves what they would spend the money on. The mortgage comparator and advisor iAhorro asked that same thing a year ago.
1. “Cover holes”
More than half of the answers obtained by iAhorro a year ago about how respondents would spend the money if they got a pinch of the prize, referred to the option of “pay debts or plug holes”, which already brings together more than half of the responses (51.4%).
2. Invest in housing
With inflation and the consequent rise in housing prices in our country, it is not surprising that this is precisely the first thought of many when it comes to deciding what to do with a prize like that of the Christmas lottery.
In fact, according to the survey carried out by iAhorro, this option was the second most requested option for the first time since 2019 (21.4% of the votes), only behind the option to “pay debts or plug holes”.
3. Save to have a ‘financial cushion’
For its part, the option of investing El Gordo to buy a home, mainly for own use, was ahead of the option of “saving, having a financial cushion”, which fell 1.4 points in one year (19.90%) and it had already been declining for three consecutive years, since it registered its maximum in 2020, with 25.10% of the votes of those surveyed.
Finally, there are still some people who prefer to spend part of it on a car (3.2%) or on other expenses (4.1%). Of course, they are two alternatives that have not stopped falling since this comparator carried out the survey, that is, since 2017.
