The oil company Tatneft and the AEON concern, owned by businessman Roman Trotsenko, showed interest in the tire plant of the Finnish Nokian Tires, which is located in Russia. This was reported on August 29 by the portal Drom.
According to the resource, Tatneft’s interest in the tire plant is logical, since this company until recently produced tires of the Kama Tires brand, however, due to sanctions, it was forced to sell this business to Tatneftekhiminvest-holding.
As for AEON, it is a diversified company, whose assets include regional airports, enterprises operating in the field of river transport, as well as the production of nitrogen fertilizers, a methanol plant, etc.
According to unnamed sources in the Russian representative office of Nokian Tires, the company is still considering various options for leaving Russia, but no concrete decisions have been made yet.
The company’s tire plant in Russia, which is located in Vsevolozhsk, is one of the largest Nokian production facilities in the world. The Russian plant produced up to 16 million tires annually for cars and trucks.
At the end of 2021, Russia accounted for 20% of brand sales and 80% of production. Most of the products from the Vsevolozhsk plant were exported to non-CIS countries, but since July 10, the EU market has been closed for the plant due to sanctions.
If Nokian does not find buyers for its production, then it can keep the Vsevolozhsk site for itself, but at the same time, the company will have to come up with a new brand for its products.
On August 2, Governor of the Leningrad Region Alexander Drozdenko announced that the Nokian Tires plant would change its name and start looking for new markets for its products. He said that there would be difficulties with the work, since it would be necessary to come up with a new tire brand, which would still have to get used to.
