MotoGP is preparing to face the weekend in Thailand with something new. In all probability, in fact, Danilo Petrucci will ride the Suzuki to replace the injured Joan Mir in the Grand Prix scheduled for October 2 at the Buriram circuit. For the rider from Terni this is a return to the top category of the World Championship, which he had left at the end of 2021. The first to report the news, still not confirmed by those directly involved but verified by multiple sources, were the Spaniards of AS.
Petrucci has just finished in second place his first experience in the MotoAmerica championship, with a gap of 20 points from Jake Gagne and scoring five wins in 20 races. Mir was injured in the first lap of the Austrian Grand Prix: after a fall he sustained astragal-calcaneal-navicular ligament injuries with grade I – II instability in his right ankle. In Misano he was replaced by Kazuki Watanabe, in Motegi he was taken over by Takuya Tsuda, the historic test driver of the Hamamatsu house. Buriram’s would be the fourth flat rate consecutive, due to an injury that evidently turned out to be more serious than expected: initially the rest days should have been 15, but they were not enough for the return of the 2020 world champion. Neither he nor the team has the need to force the return , always respecting professionalism: Mir has a contract with Honda, while for Suzuki these are the last races in the World Championship.
