Ricciardo looking for points
Two years after the last time, Daniel Ricciardo embraces Monaco again. On a track that gave him pain (the searing second place in 2016, due to a wrong stop by the team) and joy (the ‘redemption’ of 2018) the Australian from the Racing Bulls team wants to raise his head again and pick up the thread of the discussion interrupted in Miami, when he finally managed to unlock his points box.
“First of all, I’m excited to be racing in Monaco again after missing it last year – declared Ricciardo – it is one of those simply unique places that offer special sensations. Driving a Formula 1 on this track is an opportunity that can never be taken for granted. I have many fond memories of Munich and can’t wait to see what I can do here this weekend. Performance-wise, we are becoming more consistent with the car and this is important ahead of Monaco. The race result depends a lot on qualifying and, last time in Imola, we got both cars into Q3 for the first time this year, which is a good sign. If we can do that again this weekend, we should be in good shape for Sunday. Off the track, Monaco is having a great event and it’s an incredible spectacle, but I’m just focused on driving”.
Tsunoda increasingly ‘lighthouse’ of Racing Bulls
However, the driver of the moment at RB is the Japanese Yuki Tsunodacurrently tenth in the world rankings and capable of scoring in four weekends out of seven so far this season: “I feel confident for this weekend – commented the Japanese – having scored points in the last two races, three if we count the Miami Sprint. Monaco is a challenging and very exciting track, where qualifying is always special. Last year I managed to reach Q3 for the first time on this track; so, hopefully I can do the same this weekend. It would be great to continue scoring points on Sunday. I think the team is in good shape; our performances, consistency and competitiveness have improved since Miami, so I have no worries. Our goal is to improve the performance of the car even further, especially on Saturday afternoon, which really counts as if it were the first part of the race, given that the position on the grid is very important. I believe we will be able to perform well this weekend too”.
