Marco Bezzecchi it is the classic example that by never giving up and always believing in it with talent, sooner or later you can get to tread the dream stages, obtaining results that only a few years ago seemed like a utopia. The 1998-born rider won the CIV Moto3 and made his bones in the CEV in Spain, but he had to wait a long time for the opportunity to make his way in Moto3.
In 2018 riding the KTM of the Prustel GP team was sensational to the point of touching the title then won by Jorge Martin with the Honda prepared by the Gresini team. That season was enough to convince the Austrian manufacturer to focus on the Romagna-based team of young drivers placed under contract by the Mattighofen manufacturer. The 2019 in Moto2, however, was too disappointing and so Bezzecchi came out of the KTM orbit.
The VR46 riders academy, however, did not miss a talent cultivated for years and already in 2020 in Moto2 Bezzecchi proved on several occasions more performing than Luca Marini despite the minor experience. Even in the middle class, the assault on the title failed, but Valentino Rossi’s retirement opened the doors of MotoGP to ‘Bez’ due to the birth of the VR46 team. Bezzecchi today took a good revenge with everything that in the past fate has not granted him (also for his demerits and for the skill of his opponents). The Italian rider took second place in Assen, the first in MotoGP. Bezzecchi celebrated with the # 46 flag of Valentino Rossi and the academy in the lap of honor. Destiny, then, wanted Marco to become the 46th Italian rider to get on the podium in the history of MotoGP.
“It was fantastic, I started well, but not very well – Bezzecchi explained to the microphones of Sky Sport MotoGP – I immediately got into a fight to get back up, I took a door with Jack, I wanted to try to stay with the first ones because I felt I could go fast. When I got back I was catching Fabio and Aleix, then Fabio made a mistake. I saw the road open and I thought ‘I’ll try to go with Pecco, let’s see what happens’. I pushed like a damn and I detached those in the back, then I tried to manage the tire but it didn’t even help me too much. I always had good grip, the tire behaved well. Before coming here I was already happy, because I like this track. In the corners I have always felt comfortable, right from the start, while where there is more to detach I am still not perfect. But today in the end in the few braking sections that are here I was really effective. I passed Jack, but I was also there with Pecco, even if not very close. Now I want to take a good look at the data, but I hope I have learned enough to be competitive all the time. I still have to get used to forcing on the front well. The more you keep our bike loaded on the front, the better it goes. The problem is that to do it you have to have a lot of confidence and I still don’t have it in some places “.
