MC has denounced the delay of the local government of Cartagena in “guaranteeing the exemption of the occupation rate of public roads” to stallholders and street vendors who set up in the weekly markets. The councilor and deputy spokesman for the main opposition party, Jesús Giménez, recalled that since January there has been a commitment from the City Council to grant aid amounting to 200,000 euros.
It is, he said, a measure “forced by pressure” from his group, to alleviate “the consequences of the pandemic.” And he criticized that, “after suffering from municipal negligence and unfair competition from the street vendors, the concern among these sectors is more than justified, because the aid could be lost.”
The Councilor for Finance, Esperanza Nieto, stated that “negotiations continue with the beneficiaries of the aid.” «The procedures have become more complicated, because not everyone has the same interlocutors. In any case, it was agreed with them that it would be promoted after the summer, so the process will be launched shortly », she affirmed.
