The president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, closed this Wednesday night the remodeling of his autonomous Government with the dismissal of the Minister of Justice and Interior, Salomé Pradas, who held emergency powers during the catastrophic DANA of 29 October. Juan Carlos Valderrama Zuírán will assume the new Department of Emergencies and Interior, and Nuria Martínez Sanchis, that of Justice, an area that is split from the previous one.
These appointments are added to the incorporations already announced, through press releases, in previous days. They have not yet been published in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat, something that is expected to happen in the coming days, like the inaugurations.
As ABC has been reporting, Marián Cano will replace Nuria Montes as Minister of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism; Lieutenant General Francisco José Gan Pampols will be the vice president for Economic and Social Recovery; and Susana Camarero will replace Ruth Merino, who remains head of the Treasury, in the position of spokesperson for the Executive.
Security expert
The new Minister of Emergencies and Interior is a doctor in Medicine and Surgery and is currently a professor at the University of Valencia in the department of History of Science and Documentation and director of the Social and Health Information and Research group (UISY Group).
Between 2014 and 2017 he was subdelegate of the Government in the province of Valencia, carrying out his duties with the State Security Forces and Bodies, Local Police, Private Security, the National Police Corps Unit assigned to the Valencian Community and Civil Protection.
In this period, he promoted the Local Security Boards in the province of Valencia, the Master Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of Security in educational centers and their surroundings. Likewise, it promoted training in rural security, gender violence, hate crimes and discrimination of the State Security Forces and Bodies.
Previously, he had held the general deputy directorship and head of the security and training area in the Ministry of the Interior and Justice (2009-2014), a stage in which the current headquarters of the Valencian Institute of Public Security and Emergencies in Cheste was planned.
He has been a collaborator and coordinator of European projects such as “UNARS”, approved within the Daphne III program on “Children as victims and as aggressors of violence” within the Daphne III program and “HERA Improving Police Management on Domestic Violence by Women’s Emporment” , approved within the Daphne III program.
He has also published more than 190 articles in scientific journals, has collaborated on 17 books and is a member of scientific journal committees, representation in national and international scientific societies, research organizations, commissions and advisory councils.
In 2024 he received the Cross of Military Merit with White Badge; in 2018 the Gold Decoration of the Generalitat for Police Merit, and in 2017 the Cross for Police Merit with White Badge, among other awards.
Lawyer specialized in Family
For her part, Nuria Martínez Sanchis, the new Minister of Justice, has a degree in Law from the University of Valencia in 1999 and a doctorate in Law from the Catholic University of Valencia in 2016. She has been practicing law since 2000; Between 2018 and 2023, she was the dean of the Faculty of Legal, Economic and Social Sciences of the Catholic University of Valencia, where she is a professor of Civil Law and several postgraduate courses at the Catholic University of Valencia. She is also the director of a university master’s degree in Law and Procurement.
Until July 2024, she has been a member of the Family and Inheritance Section of the Official Bar Association of Valencia, and between 2010 and 2023, dean of the Faculty of Legal, Economic and Social Sciences.
She has participated in international forums and conferences related to Family Law, a regular collaborator in the ICAV Family and Inheritance Section magazine with articles related to family law and in scientific manuals and books and legal journals.
