Xbox users are now quite used to seeing some Japanese titles not arriving on their platform, but so far Capcom has always proven to be quite faithful to the cause of the Microsoft console, which has led to some surprise seeing that Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection will not be coming to Xboxbut considering other similar cases, one emerged possible explanation.
While the protest grows over the exclusion of Xbox from the collection’s release platforms, also because this joins other mysterious exclusions from some “minor” Capcom titles, but no less important for many users, some reflect on the possibility that, there may be a technical explanation behind it.
In fact, while all of Capcom’s new high-profile games are developed on the RE Engine and regularly arrive on Xbox, it seems that those based on the old MT Framework they tend not to arrive on the Microsoft console.
Has Capcom abandoned MT Framework development on Xbox?
As pointed out by X and ResetEra user Jawmuncher, there may be some sort of pattern to these exclusions.
In the list shown, the games that skip Xbox at launch are all based on the MT Framework, that is:
- Great Ace Attorney
- Monster Hunter Stories
- Monster Hunter Stories 2
- Mega Man Battle Network
- Marvel vs. Capcom Collection
There is no absolute certainty that Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection is actually built on MT Framework, but this is highly probable, considering that Capcom’s old proprietary engine is usually used for older games and adaptations of these.
The idea is that Capcom has discontinued the use of MT Framework on Xbox starting from Xbox One, perhaps to cut costs on a platform where they record lower sales than others (also being less widespread).
The explanation was confirmed by Windows Central, which took up the comment and reported that some sources contacted by the site also confirmed this version of events, with Capcom deciding to block the development of titles on the MT Framework in the Xbox version.
