Stoltenberg affirms that NATO “does not seek a conflict with Russia” and that the Alliance “will not intervene militarily” in Ukraine
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stressed on Tuesday that the Atlantic Alliance “does not seek a conflict with Russia” and that it will not intervene militarily in Ukraine, during a joint press conference with Polish President Andrzej Duda at the Lask military airbase in central Poland.
“NATO is not one of the parties to this conflict,” Stoltenberg stressed, and will not send troops to Ukraine – which is not part of the Atlantic Alliance – nor warplanes, he stressed in response to questions from journalists. Yes, “it will protect and defend the entire territory of the member countries,” the organization’s secretary general pointed out.
Stoltenberg had previously stressed this statement that “NATO members are offering their support to Ukraine and that NATO “is behind” this country, which has the “solidarity” of the organization.
“Russia must stop its brutal and unacceptable invasion, stop its troops and stop the war immediately,” urged the head of the Atlantic organization. Stoltenberg also accused Belarus of “allowing” the war and assured that both this country and Russia “will be held accountable” for the invasion of Ukraine.
