On Saturday, Indonesian Vice President Ma’ruf Amin asked residents affected by the latest volcanic eruption of Mount Ruang to follow government directives regarding their evacuation from their homes near the volcanic eruption area.
The mountain is located on the Siau Tagulandang Piaro Islands in North Sulawesi Province.
The Indonesian Antara news agency quoted the Vice President as saying, “I ask the community, which was affected by the volcanic eruption, to follow the directives provided by the government. The government will evaluate the situation, to determine whether it is necessary to move their places of residence or not.”
Marouf Amin, in his statements to reporters after attending an event, confirmed that the government is transporting residents affected by the waves of the volcanic eruption to Mount Rawang in order to preserve their safety.
The Indonesian newspaper “Tempo” quoted Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Public Works and Housing, as saying that the process of transferring residents of areas near the Mount Ruang volcano is currently underway to other safe areas in North Sulawesi province.
The Indonesian authorities had declared a state of emergency until May 14, and warned of the possibility of a tsunami if parts of the volcanic mountain collapsed as a result of its eruption.
