Kyiv complained that weapons for Ukraine had risen in price fivefold
The cost of some types of weapons for Ukraine has recently increased five to six times. To this in an interview with The Sunday Times complained founder of the Ukrainian Defense Procurement Agency Vladimir Pikuzo.
According to him, middlemen and speculators inflated prices, realizing the hopelessness of Kyiv’s situation and its willingness to pay any money for the necessary weapons. Also, the rise in prices was influenced by the financial assistance packages that the West provides to Ukraine to continue the confrontation with Russian troops. Picuso calculated that at current prices, it is possible to completely cover Ukraine’s weapons needs by spending about $200 billion, which is equal to several of China’s military budgets.
The publication explains that the Defense Procurement Agency is “hunting” for Soviet-era weapons. They are especially interested in the ammunition remaining in warehouses, since the available stocks are quickly depleted.
However, sellers are in no hurry to conclude contracts with Ukraine in anticipation of further price increases. For example, at the beginning of the special operation in 2022, one rocket for the Grad multiple launch rocket system cost $900, today they are asking six thousand dollars for it.
