For two days, HS will show a live broadcast of WWF from a winter bird feeding site in Kuusamo.

At least orange glowing balls, red-headed fireflies and colorful snails are expected in front of the camera. You may also see an eagle in the broadcast.

The live broadcast comes from the winter feeding place of the birds in Kuusamo.

This is WWF’s winter bird camera. For the previous two winters, WWF has been monitoring the feeding of birds in Parikkala, but now the camera has been moved further north. The live broadcast can be followed from Tuesday morning to Thursday morning on the HS website, and thereafter on the WWF website.

Shipment through you can follow the birds of the northern old forest. It is the reddish woodpecker that is characteristic of the old forest species.

“Kuukkeli is an example of a species that has had to retreat further and further north as its habitats in the south have gradually fragmented and disappeared. Kuukkeli is precisely a place bird in large and cohesive areas of the old forest that does not survive in a one-sided commercial forest landscape, ”says WWF’s Program Director. Petteri Tolvanen.

Endangered hummingbirds should also appear in the camera image. The species has declined rapidly in recent decades.

“A few decades ago, Hömötiainen was one of the most abundant birds in Finland, and now it is very endangered. It is a dramatic demonstration of how fast we have lost our old forests, ”says Tolvanen.

The winter bird camera is part of WWF’s natural caves, where the life of the Saimaa ringed seal and the osprey have been observed in the past.

The bird feeding site is maintained by Kuusamo Nature Photography, with which WWF is implementing a winter bird camera. WWF, Live Eye and Pukki Visuals are responsible for the technical implementation of the broadcast.
