London – “Dobby’s Tomb” is located on the beach at Freshwater West in Wales. It is the place where the scene of his death was filmed. This is where fans commemorate the beloved house elf from the Harry Potter series. The beach is owned by the National Trust. Thousands of fans make a pilgrimage to Dobby’s film gravesite every year. However, the National Trust wants to find out in a survey whether the homage to Dobby should be removed or not. Citizens can vote on the future of Dobby’s resting place, the BBC reports this week.
“Dobby’s Grave” on Freshwater West Beach is causing trouble
According to the National Trust Wales, the onslaught of Harry Potter fans has recently caused problems. There is rubbish and the parking lots are often overcrowded, the toilets are overloaded. In memory of the house elf Dobby, visitors leave lovingly inscribed stones with messages. But, socks are also left at the place. The memorial has become an absolute eyesore, complain residents, like the local newspaper The Pembrokeshire Herald reported. It’s time to put things away. Comparisons with a landfill are even drawn by one critic. Others, however, would defend Dobby’s resting place. It is a magical place with a lot of beauty, especially for children.

Victoria MacLean, a local Harry Potter fan, told the BBC: “If they remove the tomb, fans will just build a new one because there are millions of them.” She was open to a compromise. But there has to be something that fans like and still makes the sand look beautiful because it’s just a stunning beach.
On the Internet, Harry Potter fans have already started a petition for the preservation of Dobby’s grave on the beach at Freshwater West change.org started. “Every Harry Potter fan knows how important this place is” reads the appeal. However, the participation is still quite manageable.

The online poll on the future of Freshwater West and Dobby’s Grave is open until June 7th.
