“Specialists are working to develop an adequate regulatory context, so that social media is an additional health opportunity. This is why it is very important that an association like ours, the largest of private dermatologists, decides to develop own ethical sense of communication to the world, to the public, on the medical information of the specialty”. As Giovanni Menchinipresident of Aida (Italian Association of Outpatient Dermatologists), comments on the role of the dermatologist in social media by speaking at the ‘Code of ethics and social media’ Symposium, at the Aida national congress which was held in Riccione.
Nowadays, he underlines, even as doctors “we can no longer remain without communicating externally. The problem is that ‘obsolete’ behavioral guidelines or a lack of information on how to communicate externally lead to incorrect information and a closeness to patient not right”. With negative consequences “not only for the patient, but also for one’s professional figure”.
