The Parliamentary Intergroup on Menopause met for the first time this morning at Palazzo San Macuto. Chaired by Martina Semenzato, President of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into Femicide and all forms of gender-based violence, the new working group was convened to discuss the main issues to be pursued to promote policies and measures that guarantee adequate support to women in this phase of life.
“A broad and transversal participation. In addition to expressing a great parliamentary sensitivity, this new intergroup will work to try to guarantee concrete support to women and women’s health in a physiological phase of their life to be faced with serenity – underlines Semenzato – A reflection starting from the focus points of the motion of law on menopause that I deposited last October 13th to the Chamber of Deputies. On this measure I asked for political transversality with the involvement of proposals also from colleagues in the Senate, so as to involve the other branch of Parliament as well”.
“With this intent of sharing by political forces, we will organize an event on the occasion of World Menopause Day, which is celebrated every year on October 18 – Semenzato anticipates – The purpose of the day is to increase awareness of menopause and improve women’s health and well-being on multiple levels: legislative, medical/gynecological and awareness”.
