The Monza Challenge
Monza is racing against time for the long-awaited signature on the contract renewal with Formula 1. The aim is for ACI president Angelo Damiani Sticks both of the number one of Circus Stefano Sundays is to confirm the Autodromo in the calendar also after 2025, but both know how everything depends on Monza’s ability to attract spectators and improve the spectator experience in every respect.
The words of Sticchi Damiani
After the resurfacing of the track and underpasses, which Sticchi Damiani has always defined as the first phase of the works on Monza, after this weekend’s Grand Prix the Autodromo will take the decisive steps for confirmation in the calendar: “The challenge has begunwe were saying that we would have completed the part of the work regarding the track and underpasses“, these are the words of the ACI president in the press conference to present the Grand Prix. “This has been done very well, but I will be satisfied when all this is over. We have done it but all this has been encouraging for what we have to do, which is the ability to accommodate more people and better than in the past”.
“We need a more up-to-date offering and interesting. We must try to have that power of attraction that I found in Le Mans, who spent 24 hours in any condition. I want this great passion and this great interest. To do these jobs we also have to think about F1’s expectationswhich wants the Autodromo to be more beautiful, refined in detail and cared for and asks us for more space for their hospitality. This is the real challenge we are playing, we all agree and the will is there. There are also procedures, we are a public body and we must respect them“.
“At the same time we must run, our enemy is time. We have not yet renewed the contract not because we did not want to sign but because the conditions to sign are not yet there. We have to run to quickly create the conditions for F1 to sign the contract. It is not just an economic question, which is there, because it is logical that on both sides there is a push to reach a point of equilibrium. However, there are above all technical, bureaucratic, administrative questions to carry out the work that is crucial for the signing of the contract“.
Reached by FormulaPassion regarding the possibility for Imola to recover at least the 2023 Grand Prix in 2026 he let himself go with a “Let’s hope so…“. The Santerno circuit’s contract with Formula 1 also ends in 2025, but the impression is that it has much less chance of remaining on the calendar than Monza. Sticchi Damiani himself had described the possibility of a double GP in Italy from 2026 as a “dream“.
