Pupetta Maresca died in her home in Castellammare di Stabia
A life between evil and fiction, murders and beauty contests: at the age of 86 she died in her home in Castellammare di Stabia, in the province of Naples, Assunta Maresca, more known as Pupetta, the first woman to be considered a boss.
It was there widow of the boss Pasquale Simonetti, nicknamed Pascalone and Nola, married at the age of twenty in April 1955, and widow of a smuggler, Alberto. Pupetta Maresca was considered the instigator of the murder of Ciro Galli, Raffaele Cutolo’s man, killed in 1981 for transversal revenge. On February 13, 1982, in full war between Nco and Nf, he called a press conference e openly threatened Raffaele Cutolo and NCO: “If by New Family we mean all those people who defend themselves from the overwhelming power of this man, then I consider myself affiliated with this organization”.
Stopped because it was thought that he had ordered the murder of Aldo Semerari, the criminologist and psychiatrist who had declared Cutolo crazy, was then acquitted. On 4 October 1955, however, Pupetta had killed Antonio Esposito, pregnant in the sixth month of pregnancy, because he was no longer his best man for her but the instigator of the murder of her husband in July of that year.
The shots were fired by at least four guns: according to the investigators, the crime was part of the Camorra war for the management of the fruit and vegetable market. On October 14, Pupetta was arrested and in prison she gave birth to her first child, Pasqualino. Sentenced to 13 years and 4 months, she was pardoned after more than ten years of imprisonment.
In 1967 he had an experience like film actress playing the lead role in the film Crime in Posillipo, directed by Renato Parravicini, inspired by his life. In 1974 his son Pasquale was killed in an ambush: the body was never found. Pasquale did not accept his mother’s relationship with his new partner, who had repeatedly threatened him. Ammaturo, suspected of the murder, was later acquitted for lack of evidence.
On her it was also produced a fiction with Manuela Arcuri hero. As a girl she had also won a Miss title. In Naples he had two clothing stores. She had also married the boss Umberto Ammaturo in 1970, with whom he had two children, Roberto and Antonella.
