It's been six years since its release but Heavenly is still considered one of the best indies of these years, and on the occasion of his sixth anniversary the authors Extremely OK have decided to launch a new free game which celebrates the original, with this interesting Celeste 64.
As the title suggests, it is a sort of reference to the tradition of the Nintendo 64, with a 3D platformer which recalls the golden age of the genre in question, interpreting everything in line with the style of the original Celeste.
As reported in the development team's post on X, you can find Celeste 64 a this addressdownloadable for free on PC and Linux, with requirements that are not exactly exorbitant but the advice to use a controller to fully enjoy it.
A perfect 3D transposition
Celeste 64: Fragments of the Mountain is the full name of this new project, which apparently was created in about a week of work, so it is not the team's actual new production, but it still represents a very interesting game.
Furthermore, it fully reflects the spirit of the original Celeste, presenting itself as a rather difficult platformer, all based on jumps and the need to dodge obstacles and traps to reach the conclusion of the levels and the top of the great mountain that acts as the setting, an allegory of the great adventure of the protagonist to discover herself.
The use of the third person and the 3D setting do not make the undertaking very simple, but the atmosphere is really interesting and Celeste 64 could really pass for a production from the 90s and early 2000s on Nintendo 64, demonstrating the quality of the reworking by Extremely OK.
