Convert production to avoid cutting hundreds of jobs. An operation that she was forced to do Bosch at the Bari plant, where 700 of the 1,700 employees employed were at high risk of dismissal until recent days. A danger now escaped: the German multinational has in fact decided, by mutual agreement with the trade unions, to change the skin of the plant, passing from the production of diesel engines to that of e-bikes. The agreement between the parties was signed yesterday by Bosch and the trade unions at Mise, in the presence of representatives of the Puglia Region.
According to what is reported by Repubblica today on newsstands, the German multinational is committed to investing 124 million euros until 2027, also against a commitment from the Puglia Region of another 15.6 million. In addition to solidarity contracts, exits are envisaged only on a voluntary basis: therefore, with the exception of the 700 jobs that seemed to be about to be cut, with the workforce that should indeed be filled with another 150 employees. The production line in Bari therefore changes: Bosch has made it known that it will undertake to transfer to the plant Modugno Diesel Technologies other activities, such as the production of electric bicycles. But this does not mean that the company’s Apulian plant will completely forget the production of diesel engines that is also permitted in the future, despite the stop in Europe of the sale of cars with internal combustion engines.
Satisfaction on the part of the unions, in particular of the acronyms Fim, Fiom, Uilm and Ugl metalworkers, who commented in unison: “Production continuity is given to the plant without layoffsagainst the possible use of conservative social safety nets and voluntary exits “. A hypothesis that had been circulating for months, according to which there was even a risk, was therefore averted the whole plant of Bari: the responsibility for the potential closure of the plant had been placed on the electric transition, but now the electric one, albeit on two wheels, could be the lifeline of the site.
