Deputy states that the former president's event on Av. Paulista aims to “attack” democracy and demand amnesty for “coup plotters”
The federal deputy Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ) said this Saturday (24.Feb.2024) that the act promoted by the former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) scheduled for Sunday (25.Feb) on Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo, will be the continuation of 8 de Janeiro. After 8 days of the president's inauguration Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in 2023, Bolsonaro supporters invaded and vandalized the headquarters of the Three Powers in Brasília (DF).
“They invest in a new coup, with the support of far-right politicians and businesspeople”declared the PT member in his profile on X (ex-Twitter). For Lindbergh, the objective of the former president's act is “attack” O STF (Federal Supreme Court) and democratic institutions, exalt the “myth” (in reference to how supporters call Bolsonaro), criticize the justice system and demand amnesty for “scammers”.
The deputy stated that Bolsonaro's supporters present themselves “cynically” as patriots and use the public money of the Party Fund to promote a “outrage” against democracy. “This is how the serpent of fascism grows. Pretending it’s not a snake”he declared.
When calling for the demonstration, the former president stated that the event aims to defend the democratic rule of law and himself from “all charges” that they have suffered in recent months. Bolsonaro is the target of the PF (Federal Police) operation Tempus Veritatis and had his passport confiscated.
The act will be paid for by pastor Silas Malafaia. The religious leader said that he will use his own money to pay for the equipment used in the demonstration in São Paulo – the values range from R$90,000 to R$100,000.
BOLSONARO ACT
This Sunday's event (Feb 25) will be in front of the Masp, on Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo. According to Fabio Wajngarten, Bolsonaro's lawyer and advisor, 700,000 people are expected.
The governor of Minas Gerais, Romeo Zema (New), confirmed this Saturday (Feb 24) his participation in the demonstration. They are 3 other governors expected. The one in Santa Catarina, Jorginho Mello (PL), is in the United Arab Emirates, but anticipated returning to Brazil to participate in the event. In addition to him, the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), the governor of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil), and the mayor of the capital of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), they said they will also go.
The demonstration must also be attended by at least 11 senators and 92 federal deputies.
