The historic Basque journalist will remain on the TVE staff
Ana Blanco (Bilbao, 61 years old) will stop presenting TVE Newscast 1 after more than 30 years, specifically since 1990, as head of the public broadcaster’s news, during which time she has managed to maintain an impeccable professional career and a discreet private life. As ‘El Confidencial Digital’ progresses, Ana Blanco will not join the group of news presenters in the new season of TVE in which other changes are coming up in different time slots. The presenter, however, will not leave the public network, but in all probability will lead programs or news specials. Already last season, the one that runs from September 2021 to July 2022, the Bilbao journalist stopped presenting the first edition of the Newscast for several days, being replaced by Alejandra Herranz.
According to ‘El Confidencial Digital’, Blanco was “tired” of presenting the news, so before the holidays she decided to agree with the company’s management to leave the news space. However, Blanco’s departure from the Newscast had been weighed since the landing of José Manuel Pérez Tornero at the head of RTVE. Already last year, “give a new life to TVE news” was considered, something that will finally take place in this new season. However, at this time of the morning TVE has declined to make any official comment on the matter.

A reference for viewers and professionals inside and outside TVE, the journalist appeared for the first time on the channel, on September 15, 1990, during which time she has maintained impeccable professionalism (they say that it is almost impossible for her to make a mistake in reading the news on the teleprompter) and in which her image has hardly changed with her iconic short hair with bangs and a face that does not seem to have passed the time.
The attacks of 11-S and 11-M, the appointments of Benedict XVI and Francisco, the wedding of Felipe VI and Letizia and all the general elections of recent decades have featured Ana Blanco as narrator, a professional career endorsed by seven Iris awards, two Golden Antennas, a Golden Microphone and the Ondas Award in 2015 after serving a quarter of a century in the news.
The reactions to the news have not been long in coming on Twitter, where, for example, the Second Vice President of the Government, Yolanda Díaz, has praised the professional figure of the communicator: Inform with rigor, empathy and professionalism. That is the capital function of journalism and that is what Ana Blanco has done in the news on public television. Hopefully she will continue for many more years giving voice and face to those she passes on to us. Thank you Ana.
