The wait for the new generation of AMD Ryzen 9000 desktop processors, based on the Zen 5 architecture, is about to end. The latest rumors have revealed surprisingly competitive prices and possible availability not before the end of July.
Leaked online pricing from retailer listings in Canada and the Philippines indicates that AMD may be adopting an aggressive pricing strategy for the Ryzen 9000 series. The Ryzen 9 9950X, the flagship model with 16 cores and 32 threads, could be available at 839 Canadian dollars: a figure that corresponds to approximately 610 dollars, a lower price than its predecessor, the Ryzen 9 7950X(3D), which at launch was sold for 700$ in the United States. This move could make the new processor a very attractive option for users looking for high performance without compromising the budget.
At Computex 2024, AMD showcased four Ryzen 9000 CPUsAMD showcased four Ryzen 9000 CPUs: Ryzen 9 9950X, Ryzen 9 9900X, Ryzen 7 9700X, and Ryzen 5 9600X. All four maintain the same number of cores as their predecessors (16, 12, 8 and 6 respectively), but promise a 15% performance increase thanks to improved IPC (instructions per cycle).
As for availability, some Canadian retailers have already included Ryzen 9000 processors in their price lists, although the product pages are still hidden and pre-sales are marked as active from July 31, 2024. It could easily be a placeholder, given that AMD has been talking about availability since July, but it still makes sense to report it.
Over at Canada Computers, Bermorzone, a Philippines-based reseller, also revealed preliminary pricing for its entire Ryzen 9000 “Zen 5” desktop CPU lineup. Prices are as follows:
- Ryzen 9 9950X – 38,000 pesos ($647.93 US)
- Ryzen 9 9900X – 35,000 pesos ($596.77 US)
- Ryzen 7 9700X – 24,000 pesos ($409.21 US)
- Ryzen 5 9600X – 18,500 pesos ($315.43 US)
The Zen 5 architecture, the beating heart of the new Ryzen 9000 series, promises a significant leap forward in performance. A 15% increase in IPC (instructions per cycle) is expected over Zen 4, as well as improvements in power efficiency and support for new technologies. The new processors will be compatible with current generation AM5 motherboards, making the upgrade easier for users who have already invested in this platform.
And what do you think of the new AMD Ryzen 9000 processors? Will they make you change your PC’s CPU or will you stay with your current configuration?
