“This evening represents one more opportunity to shed light on a disease that still exists, despite the fact that it seems forgotten. There are 150 thousand people affected by HIV today in Italy and it is estimated that another 10 thousand do not know they have it. We want to remind you of the importance of prevention and of undergoing a rapid test: because today you can never die of AIDS again if you access treatment in time. But above all we want to bring information, especially to young people. We do it with the school project ‘Anlaids Lazio meets students’ and the ‘Anlaids Lazio meets young people’ project, but we also want to do it on the means of communication most used by young people: social networks”. This was said by Gianluca De Marchi, president of Anlaids Lazio and CEO of Urban Vision Group, at the opening of the Anlaids Lazio Charity Dinner, which was recently held in the Central Hall of the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome, to raise funds to finance the activities to prevent HIV infection, fight AIDS and support people with HIV.
At the event – we read in a note – the data from the survey conducted by SocialData were also presented to highlight how much and how HIV and AIDS are talked about on the various social platforms and to understand, in particular, how much the conversations on these themes that interest and involve the young target. If it is true that Facebook remains the social platform where AIDS/HIV is talked about the most (47%), the results show an increase in conversations on the topic even on the most used platforms among young people: Instagram records +2% compared to 2023, so how engagement focuses in particular on TikTok and Instagram, which together account for 92% of interactions.
In addition to the memory of the immunologist Fernando Aiuti, founder of Anlaids – National Association for the fight against AIDS – and the first, at the beginning of the nineties, to have undertaken the fight against stigma towards people affected by HIV and AIDS by also giving a new direction to scientific research, the evening saw the involvement of over 300 guests – representatives of institutions and well-known faces from the world of culture, journalism and entertainment, in particular the many talents: Emma, Alessia Marcuzzi and Cristiano Caccamo – in share the two new prevention and rapid test awareness campaigns by Anlaids Lazio on their social profiles: ‘Do it for your health’ and ‘Protect yourself and others’.
During the Charity Dinner, which saw a live performance by Malika Ayane, three women were awarded the recognition of Anlaids Lazio Ambassador for their commitment to the Association and scientific research: Antonella Polimeni, rector of the University Wisdom; Rita Bellagamba, infectious disease doctor at INMI L. Spallanzani and Rozenn Esvan, researcher on AIDS and infectious diseases.
There are many initiatives that will be financed thanks to the over 210 thousand euros raised thanks to the support of the members and guests of the Gala. Among these, the school project ‘Anlaids Lazio meets the students’; the ‘Let’s do it Rapido’ project, created together with the INMI L. Spallanzani, which provides for the free administration of the rapid HIV/HCV test to contribute, in addition to raising awareness, to the detection of the undeclared population; the ‘Prevention&Listening’ project which offers telephone counseling, apps and individual face-to-face meetings. Finally, the ‘Anlaids Lazio meets young people’ project, a prevention program developed in collaboration with Opi Roma, which is aimed at students of 17 degree courses in nursing and healthcare subjects in Rome and other cities in Lazio, to encourage information and training of young people who are preparing to become healthcare workers.
