No ‘encore’ on the podium
Hopes for another good result for the team GASGAS Tech3 and a possible podium for the rookie Peter Acosta they faded after a few laps of the San Marino Grand Prix, at a point in the race when real chaos began, generating general doubts about the riders’ choices of whether or not to return to the pits to replace the bike with wet tyres.
The falls of Acosta and Fernandez
After a thrilling battle for third place with Franco Morbidelli, with the two riders also coming to contactSpanish is fallen during the 6th lap, thus ruining any opportunity to return to the top three after the podium achieved in Aragon. As if that were not enough, during the following lap Morbidelli also lost control of the bike, as did Augustus Fernandez. Two episodes that occurred at a time when rain began to fall on the Misano circuit, which would have lasted only a couple of laps, but which forced some riders to return to the pits to change bikes. A decision, taken above all by the world championship leader Jorge Martin, which later proved to be wrong.
Not all negative
A race to forget for Acosta in terms of results, but not for other aspects, as commented by the young Iberian driver: “We had a great start, we were very fast in the first laps but I hit Franco Morbidelli hard on the rear and lost a wing. The bike was difficult to manage, but that’s racing. Then we crashed, but we have to be happy overall because we were competitive again all weekend, and also at the beginning of the race“.
An analysis similar to that of his teammate Fernandez: “My start was good, I was gaining positions, but unfortunately I crashed at the last corner. Despite the crash, this weekend we have made progresswe are gradually regaining confidence on the bike. Now we have the test to continue doing so, and then we will look to Misano 2 in two weeks!”
