Abu Dhabi Police has enhanced awareness among taxi drivers about traffic laws, regulations and rules in a workshop held by the Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate at the Directorate’s theatre, as part of its road safety strategy.
Brigadier Mahmoud Yousef Al Balushi, Director of the Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate, stressed the interest of Abu Dhabi Police in urging drivers to adhere to conscious and safe driving and to educate them about the mistakes made by some taxi and public service vehicle drivers, which pose a threat to road safety, including wrong overtaking, swerving and sudden stops, which result in collision accidents and endanger the safety of drivers and road users.
He called on taxi drivers to adhere to stopping in safe places for passengers to board and disembark, reduce speeds, take care of the vehicle and maintain it, and adhere to the speed limits on the roads of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Major Ahmed Abdullah Al Muhairi, Director of the Traffic Awareness and Education Branch in Abu Dhabi, warned of the dangers of running a red light, which causes traffic accidents that lead to deaths and injuries. He urged taxi drivers not to be distracted from the road and to avoid using their phones while driving to browse the internet and social media sites, make calls, or take pictures. He also stressed the importance of paying attention and focusing while driving, not violating pedestrian crossings, and adhering to the speed limits within cities and on external roads so that they can control the vehicle, pay attention to road surprises, and avoid accidents.
The workshop included distributing brochures and showing digital awareness videos about traffic accidents and the lessons learned from them. The focus was also on educating them in various languages, Arabic, English and Urdu, about the danger of stopping in the middle of the road for any reason, and the importance of heading to the nearest exit to ensure the safety of road users. In the event of not being able to move the vehicle, contact the Command and Control Center immediately on 999 to provide the necessary support to avoid serious and dangerous accidents and obstructing traffic, and the necessity of adhering to the designated parking spaces for taxis when passengers get off and on.
