Aboul Gheit indicated, during his participation in the seventh edition of the Rome-Mediterranean Dialogue, which will be held in the Italian capital on December 3-4, with the participation of a number of senior officials, experts and economists from countries bordering both sides of the Mediterranean, that the stability of navigation in these strategic straits is important for global trade. , especially with regard to the transportation of petroleum products, which is a mainstay of the global economy, and that maintaining freedom of navigation without threat is a global priority, and not only for the Arab countries bordering on it.
An official source at the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States stated that Aboul Gheit spoke about the security of the Gulf and the dangers of the Iranian threat to freedom of maritime navigation, before a session devoted to discussing this issue, with the participation of the Director General of the Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi.
In his participation, Aboul Gheit explained that the Iranian behavior in the region, and the apparent tendency to dominate and interfere in the Arab countries, are the reason behind the difficulty of establishing a security system in the Gulf based on cooperation and the common well-being of peoples, noting that several initiatives have been put forward in this regard, but the main problem remains Lack of confidence as a result of Iranian policies that represent a threat to its neighbors.
Aboul Gheit stressed that Iran’s acquisition of nuclear weapons would trigger an arms race in the region, wishing that the current negotiations would succeed in dissuading Iran from achieving this goal in order to avoid the security situation from deteriorating to something more dangerous.
He explained that it is difficult to address the Iranian nuclear program without considering the fact that there is an already existing nuclear power in the region; It is Israel, especially in light of its insistence on destroying the two-state solution and wasting opportunities for its implementation.
